This place is fantastic the food is always made to order, so it’s super fresh every time. Nothing sits around, whether you get shrimp, catfish, or a side. That freshness really stands out compared to other places. If you order ahead, just be honest about your arrival time. They start cooking based on when you say you’ll get there, so if you say five minutes but actually take ten, your food might not be as fresh. They really care about quality and want your meal even the fries to be hot and ready when you arrive. Their commitment to freshness is a big reason I keep coming back.
Many years ago we used to frequent Goose Island whenever we were in the city. When I heard that shrimp Island’s owner used to be the cook there, I knew I had to check this place out and it did not disappoint. One bite of the shrimp brought back so many fond memories. We had the Jumbo shrimp, Catfish nuggets and mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious. We have to drive from Oak Brook to get to this place, but it is well worth the ride and we’ll definitely be back!
Love that it’s local and I don’t have to travel far for fried shrimp with the Chicago classic “Mild sauce” which is kinda like hot & BBQ sauce mixed together. Food always comes out HOT! Which I love. My favorites are the shrimp of course, clam strips and CORN NUGGETS. (Not on the menu, but just ask) think of it like a little cream corn nugget. This place is under a new owner, who I observed, was great with the kids coming out of the high school across the street. Obviously they were his regulars because it’s like he knew their names and asked how they were doing in school, etc as if picking up where they left off in their last conversations. It was really nice to see. Come here because the food is yummy! It’s just take out, no dine in seating.
Hands down... The best. FRIED. JUMBO SHRIMP. I'VE HAD!!! They were so succulent, juicy and by far the most authentic! Their Shrimp Island hot sauce is delicious, but never forget the cocktail sauce for an additional 1.50. (I can't eat without my beloved cocktail sauce!) I cannot even provide a picture, as they were so damn good. They went straight into my mouth without a second thought. Usually, I pick off the soggy breading off the shrimp, but here.... I have not wasted any precious breading!!! That's a huge game changer and delight! The whole food, as a product is stellar and on point. Made to order, and the service is quick. Just call it in, or better yet. Walk in, place the order, wait. Then pay for your order and go enjoy that fresh experience right out of the bag! I had sent my significant other to fetch them, TWICE in one day. And I could not stop thinking about them the morning after... Which would be the first thing we went together to get another round of fried jumbo shrimp! The macaroni salad was delicious as well, as the texture of the pasta was just right and yummy! This hidden gem sits off the corner of W Grand and N Long Street, impossible to miss! The establishment is simple, and has a clean waiting area. So to me, that screams, "no funny business"! Just like their menu, easy, straight to the point, providing high quality menu items without the headache. Justin had taken our order each time, and he has the calmest, coolest demeanor. Definitely going back to get my fix of fried jumbo shrimp, and eventually try everything else when the time comes!

Stopped by Shrimp Island to grab dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Service was quick and professional. Restaurant was very clean. The food was hot (even after a ride home), and taste was very good. Mild sauce was delicious. However, the reason I came to write this review....look how big their (jumbo) shrimp are!!!! Wowzer.
Shrimp Island will be my new go-to place for lunch, whenever I need something quick, fresh, and delicious. The location itself is a small, nicely kept, only carry-out restaurant. Hand sanitizer inside, and small bench to sit if you want to wait for food. I’d recommend to call in advance and then pick up. Though waiting time for me has been around 5 min so they’re really quick. I’ve tried the regular shrimp, fish chips, scallops, potato salad, and fries. They all tasted delicious, freshly done. Portions are also pretty good for the price. Though I’m obsessed with the fish chips with the mild sauce. Considering they’re a new location, I’m impressed. Maybe tartar sauce for future menu? Service is great - all staff are very friendly and understanding. Owners Justin and Gregg were very attentive. Their social media is also up to date, so that is also ideal.
